Starbursts--at LACE

Emily Joyce participated in Hollywood MerchmART at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions to kick off the Summer! The show, curated by Emma Gray, transformed LACE’s storefront space into an artist-created souvenir shop with price points between $1-$200! Check it out if you get the chance, it'll be up all Summer! A deal is so much sweeter in the Summer.
Here you can see our first official edition printed together, variable edition that is. 25 different 20" x 20" posters in 5 colors of paper and 6 colors of ink. Aren't they fun?!

Summer Titone's Summer 2010

Summer asked me to print the artwork of her friend, Alex, onto clothing she has designed and sewn for her newest Summer clothing line. I had to simplify the paintings to be translated into screenprints, but I think they still carry the essence of the original artwork pretty well. The clothes was featured at a show at New Puppy Gallery in LA, this July. Her website is summertitone.com, and her clothes can also be purchased through Etsy. Have a look!

Our Wedding Invitations...

...are done!

They were screenprinted on BFK Rives, off-white.

Design help was provided by the very talented Jocelyn Muhlbach at Petit Bureau.

PARROT 2,3 & 4

Matthew Timmons and I printed 3 more editions of titles from the PARROT series.  This fantastic collaborative effort  is described well in the previous post, PARROT 1, and can be subscribed to by visiting InsertPress.Net.
The newest additions include writing by authors Harold Abramowitz, Allison Carter and Joseph Mosconi. There are many more editions to print! And, if you are interested in these gems, grab them while they are still here! Amazing talent here, really!

 One of the most important things to consider when working on a large scale printing project, is food. Here we are doing what we do-- eating Cobb Salads; the perfect energy food-- in a great atmosphere of kitchy rooster paintings and western font!!!

As promised, the above are pictures of the remainder of this set of prints--the colorful leaves!  Contrary to what you would believe, each leaf was strategically placed to create these lush bundles of leaf shaped color, revealing mere slivers of the many pairs of eyes printed before. What magical landscapes they are upright!

Roussau Walks

These are pictures from the next set of prints made with Emily Joyce. This represents the beginning layers of the print-- a grid of eyes. The whole surface will then be completely covered with a web of leaf shapes.

Wedding Shower Invitations

It was hard to imagine what I would do to make my  own wedding invitations...given loads of references and printing options...really, an overwhelming task! Litho? Screenprint? Relief? Etching? Letterpress? What I did know, was that this would have to be a close collaboration with my soon-to-be, David Lomeli. Here is what we came up with for the shower invitations:

The illustration was done by David, laser cut out of card stock and mounted onto cream Rives BFK

The letterpress printing was done using a photo polymer plate

all was bundled together in a curry colored envelope

This is a wonderful collaborative effort started with my friend, Matthew Timmons, which is one of my few endevours involving creative writing.  The PARROT series was originally issued by Blanc Press (Los Angeles) from 2005-2010. Insert Press, based in Los Angeles,  is reissuing facsimile editions of each title from the PARROT series and releasing a Limited Edition hand-bound set of the collection at the end of the run. PARROT, is a direct reference to SPARROW published by Black Sparrow Press in the late 1960's.  SPARROW was printed using only handset type, and now, PARROT is being produced using more modern conventions: screenprinting and laserjet printing. 

The books were printed on Mohawk Via Satin.
